Studio RED was selected to complete a high profile, $46.5 million makeover on Houston’s famed Alley Theatre. The renovations double the size of the Patricia Peckinpaugh Hubbard Stage, remove viewing obstructions and add a large four-story fly loft. Additional improvements include a new fully trapped area below the stage floor, and associated grid, rigging, lighting, sound system, and seating renovations. The new larger thrust stage and an updated seating arrangement provide the audience with a more intimate experience and the lobby space now includes a skyline view and expanded restrooms. Improvements in infrastructure include a new multi-zoned air conditioning system and new electrical and plumbing systems, resulting in a more energy-efficient building; additionally the concrete exterior was cleaned.
