FOURTH WARD REDEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

PROJECT INFORMATION

Studio RED principal, Bill Neuhaus was the designer for the master plan of a 125-acre core of the Fourth Ward and Freedman’s Town National Historic District, along with designed with Stull & Lee of Boston to be socially responsible and economically viable. Research for the project was conducted through a public process of community meetings, site investigations and focus groups. The goal was to create a plan that would be economically viable and socially responsible. Of prime importance was respect for the neighborhood’s rich architectural and social history. The plan maintains the existing street patterns creating historic corridors that contribute to the aesthetic charm, sense of community, and marketability of the area.
