Chuck Still, Executive Director of Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston (MATCH), sent the organization’s followers an email update with the latest construction progress of the breezeway:
The breezeway is coming together and we are getting close to the finish line. In the picture below, two workers align the corrugated metal panels that line both the inside of the breezeway and the outside of the building. They are applying this panel near the bridge that runs between the north building and the offices on the second floor.

Also featured in this picture are the conduits for lighting and sound in the breezeway. In keeping with the industrial looks, these conduits are exposed but that doesn’t mean they run haphazardly along the beams. No, as you can tell from this photo, they are exactly placed to compliment the breezeway’s spare clean lines.
The picture below is taken from a vantage point you’ve seen many times. In the foreground are the bleacher stairs and off to the left, you can see the glass box that is the lobby for Theatre B or MATCH Box 3.

Just right of center in the photo is the glass box that is the entry way to Theatre A or MATCH Box 1. Further down and harder to see is the glass box that makes up the café. In this photo, you can also get a feel for the different kinds of metal paneling that cover the building. Note too the conduit on the beam to the left. The breezeway promises to be a one of a kind experience in Houston.
Studio RED, in conjunction with Lake | Flato Architects, designed the 46,000 sf, multi-tenant exhibition space with rehearsal halls, black box spaces, galleries, offices and a 350-seat theater. Construction is scheduled to be complete this Fall, 2015. View the project sheet from Studio RED Architects here.
