Boyert Shooting Range combines in one building a unique selection of activities for shooting enthusiasts, including live and simulated fire, recreation, training, education and retail experiences, all within a comfortable, state-of-the-art environment and a convenient urban location

The grand opening of Boyert Shooting Range, designed and built by Houston-based architectural firm Studio RED Architects in collaboration with Acumen Design, was recently celebrated on the weekend of June 14th. The 13,000 sq.ft. facility combines under one roof an eight-lane live-fire shooting range for handguns and rifles, virtual reality training range, firearms retail center, educational space and more.

Boyert Shooting Range is only the second indoor shooting range constructed in the city in a decade. The mix of commercial uses is unique, including combining a live-fire shooting range with multiple virtual reality simulator and training options, some previously available only to the military and law enforcement. The facility is located on the west side of Houston and is designed to fit pleasingly into a high energy, dense retail corridor.

Project Lead and Studio RED Principal Micah Simecek was able to manage the expectations of the Boyert executive staff and transform them into a design that is both innovative and functional. Functionally diverse spaces had to be arranged into a cohesive whole, while allowing each enough room to perform effectively. The facility also needed to be physically attractive and comfortable, in order to appeal to the widest range of potential clients. “Community and social media response has been amazing,” says Simecek. “There is incredible enthusiasm for the range of shooting opportunities here.”
