Studio RED Architects is performing ongoing renovation design services to Main Street Theater located in Rice Village, including aesthetic upgrades, structural design and construction.

The first phase of design and construction is complete. The renovation and design was created by Studio RED Architects and began in July 2012. The first phase of renovation consisted of façade upgrades to freshen up the 50+ year old brick exterior, adding a parapet with backlit signage and replacing the aging canopy with a new aluminum canopy with marquee lighting.

“The most important part of the first phase of design was to clean up the exterior and provide an impressionable, highly visible façade that strengthens their presence in the community,” said Micah Simecek, project architect at Studio RED Architects. “The Main Street Theater has had a huge response from the new improvements and hopes to build momentum for their capital campaign for the future phases.”

The partners of Studio RED Architects have designed and managed indoor and outdoor cultural arts projects for over 20 years including the Harris Theater, Kinkaid Theater, Lee College Performing Arts Center and the Wortham Center. Pete Ed Garrett, partner at the recognized architecture firm, and Micah Simecek are working closely with the founder and Artistic Director Becky Udden, Joe Kirkendall and their staff at Main Street Theater to renovate and upgrade the 1970s theater.

“We are taking today’s theater design concepts to the next level,” said Studio RED Architects partner Pete Ed Garrett. “By combining out-of-the-box, unique designs that put the interests of our clients first while maintaining the history of the building and ultimately creating the client’s vision.”

Partner Pete Ed Garrett, AIA has over 28 years of award-winning architecture and design experience in the university, public and private sector with an emphasis in entertainment, performing arts centers and public assembly facilities.
